The Rule of Thirds

Apps Unlimited

Oracle have committed to continue to develop and support JD Edwards, PeopleSoft, EBS and Siebel indefinitely. In parallel, they will release the Fusion Application in 2008 (read: “a minor part of fusion because the real deal will take substantially longer”). This provides customers with the ability to migrate to Fusion at their leisure, thereby allowing the customers of the acquired apps to slowly bed into the Oracle world.

There is no longer a hard stop date of 2013 for support.

Oracle quote:

“We plan to mainain all our families of products as long as they remain viable”

It appears that Oracle believe the Fusion Applications will prove more attractive than the legacy versions in the long run, but do not want to allienate their current (acquired) customers by forcing them to change in the short term.
